A Day at School

Each morning begins with the children practicing yoga asanas and meditation, which amongst other things improves their concentration. Local traditions form an important part of the extra-curricular activities. National songs also form part of their daily routine. As for sports, children play the local sport forms such as Kabaddi and kho kho as well as games such as volleyball. The children are taught to cherish the environment and to maintain their natural closeness to nature. Many schools have extensive school gardens that are maintained entirely by our children.

Our children also enjoy creative activities such as drawing, painting and clay modeling. Literary debating and sports activities help to develop their personalities. In tribal schools the children are taught local dances and folk songs. Vocational classes for older students provide them with practical skills required for earning a living. There are tailoring, typing and traditional Indian crafts classes for women who have traditionally remained at home with little opportunity for social contact or vocational training. We encourage students to make friends and to regard teachers as friends and confidants. This creates a feeling of belonging to a caring community.
